Is Dalgona Coffee over-hyped?Here’s the answer

Is Dalgona Coffee over-hyped?Here’s the answer
Once again the West has succeeded in revamping our traditional dishes that once used to be a part of our lifestyle. Remember when our very own Haldi Doodh became Turmeric Latte? Similarly, this time they have renamed our ‘Pheti hui Coffee’ as ‘Dalgona Coffee’.
We agree that the aesthetic pictures of delicious-looking Dalgona Coffee are definitely not worth a miss while mindlessly scrolling through social media during the lockdown. If we look at social media minutely, this coffee is the biggest trend that is making a buzz across platforms. Right from Twitter to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok - Dalgona Coffee is all over the internet. On the other side of the spectrum, the drink is being criticized and is being considered ‘overhyped’ on social media too. From home chefs to professionals, everyone is agreeing that it’s a replica of old-age pheti hui coffee. To do a reality check we did a Twitter poll to know, whether it’s actually delicious or over-hyped.

What’s the result?
According to 40 percent netizens it a complete over-hyped drink, while 30 percent feel that it is worth a try. And 15 percent people feel that they don’t even want to try it.

What experts feel?

According to Chef Sadaf Hussain, it’s not a new thing. The only new thing is the upside-down stuff. Earlier we used to beat the coffee and then add hot milk to it. With Dalgona, they add cold milk and then top it with whipped coffee. I feel the hot version with beaten coffee was way more intense and flavourful as compared to Dalgona.

Why is it getting popular?

Sadaf feels that it is because people don’t have much to do at home during lockdown. Also, it’s the age of influencers, who have the power of pleasing people with amazing art of plating and camera tactics. And then there is a section of people who are curious to try everything that is trending.

Which one is easy to drink?

According to people who had tasted both, pehti hui coffee in hot milk is easy to consume as coffee, milk and sugar blends easily. While in case of Dalgona, use of ice and then filling the glass with beaten coffee till neck makes it difficult to stir and then drink. The even taste is missing in it!
